How Do You Know When to Document Your Boss or Just Walk?
People in power test how much they can get away with, it's basically wired into hierarchy behavior itself. Bad bosses stay bad because of: 1) loss aversion, they know confronting you costs them more effort than just tolerating your silence 2) the sunk cost fallacy, you keep hoping the good weeks cancel out the bad ones 3) learned helplessness, the longer you absorb it without proof, the harder it feels to ever fight back. Every email you don't save is a fight you can't win later.
The survival math
Boss crosses a line, you let it slide
No paper trail exists when you need it
You push back once, nothing actually changes
Leaving becomes the only real leverage left
How much your boss thinks they can get away with
When HR finally reads your email, you might not like whose side it protects.
