Why Does Corporate America Feel So Weird and Fake?
Humans are tribal animals biologically wired to test outsiders before handing them real information. Corporate America feels fake because of: 1) impression management, everyone's performing a role, not stating the raw truth 2) high context communication, the real meaning hides in tone, silence, and timing, not the words said out loud 3) in group signaling, the unwritten rules exist specifically to sort insiders from outsiders fast. Being direct and skilled doesn't get you in. Reading the room does.
What's actually happening
You say the honest thing, get punished for it
Everyone smiles, nobody names the real problem
The meeting decides nothing, the hallway decides everything
Skip the code, stay confused and stuck forever
Myth vs Reality
Myth
Corporate rewards whoever works hardest
Reality
Corporate rewards whoever reads the room best
Nobody agrees on how long you can fake the performance before it becomes who you actually are.
