Why Do Scammers Always Say Not to Tell Anyone?
Isolation is the only condition under which a bad story survives contact with another human being. The secrecy is required because of: 1) removing social proof, since one outside opinion kills the whole thing instantly, so the outside has to be closed off first 2) manufactured urgency, because a clock stops you checking anything at all 3) the sunk cost trap, because once you have paid a little, telling someone means admitting it, and now the silence is yours to keep for them. Any deal that cannot survive one phone call to your cousin is not a deal.
