Why Does Everyone Give Advice Nobody Asked For?
Advice is mostly about the person giving it and almost never about the situation in front of them. It arrives uninvited because of: 1) the false consensus effect, since they assume their own solution is the obvious one because it happened to work in their life 2) status through expertise, because advising places them above the problem, which also places them above you 3) discomfort management, since sitting with somebody else's problem and no fix is genuinely harder than talking. When you want a witness instead of a plan, say so first. Nobody guesses it.
