It keeps coming because of: 1) social proof used as leverage, since pointing at an example is much easier than making a request 2) reflected status, because your cousin's win is currency she can spend with her own brothers and sisters 3) the contrast effect, because holding you up next to something makes any gap look larger than it actually is. You are not being compared. You are being used as a number in somebody else's conversation.

Ask who else she has told about your cousin lately.

Why Does Someone Text Just Enough to Keep You Around?

Nothing holds attention like a reward you cannot predict, and people work this out without ever being taught it. The drip continues because of: 1) intermittent reinforcement, since an unpredictable schedule is the single most habit forming pattern there is, which is why slot machines exist 2) option value, because you are being held as a live option rather than actually chosen 3) the sunk cost of hope, since the longer you wait the more the waiting needs to have meant something. Being kept is not being wanted. Work out which one you are in.

The reaction arrives because of: 1) loss aversion, since access they used to have for free suddenly carries a price 2) reactance, because being told no triggers a push against the limit itself, completely separate from whatever the limit is about 3) the first reaction being a test, since a new rule gets checked for whether it is real before it gets accepted. The offense is not evidence you were wrong. It is evidence the boundary changed something.

Decision fatigue is not a side effect of a long sale. It is the schedule. The extra coverage waits until the end because of: 1) decision fatigue, since by the final page you will agree to nearly anything to be finished and out of the chair 2) the contrast effect, because a few dollars a month sitting next to a number that large reads as basically nothing 3) fear framing, since everything you just bought is now something you could lose. Anything offered last was placed last on purpose.

Reacting last is how you get named first. That is worth knowing before you react.
