Why Do Two Quotes for the Same Job Never Match?
A quote is not a measurement. It is a guess about you wrapped around a guess about the work. Two numbers never line up because of: 1) undefined scope, since nobody wrote down the job, so two people priced two different jobs 2) anchoring on you, because how you asked, what you drive and what you already said told each of them what you would probably pay 3) risk padding, since the higher number is frequently the one that read the problem correctly and priced the surprise you have not found yet. Get the scope in writing and the prices start meaning something.
Why this keeps happening
Nobody defined the same job
How you ask sets the number
The high quote may be honest
Write the scope, then compare
The real comparison
Send both of them an identical written scope and watch the gap shrink.
